ST. LOUIS, Mo. – In an address to the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting Office Project Key, Mitt Romney accused President Obama of “using every imaginable ploy” to restrict the right to bear arms.
Speaking to a crowd of thousands at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Romney vowed to enforce current gun laws without creating new ones and said he would work to protect the Second Amendment rights of Americans.
“We need a president who will enforce current laws, not create new ones that only serve to burden lawful gun owners,” said Romney. “President Obama has not, I will.”
“We need a president who will stand up for the rights of hunters and sportsmen, and those seeking to protect their homes and their families,” he said. “President Obama has not Windows 7 activation key, I will.
“And if we are going to safeguard our Second Amendment, it is time to elect a president who will defend the rights President Obama ignores or minimizes, and I will protect the Second Amendment rights of American people,” Romney pledged.
But Romney’s remarks about gun control came toward the end of his speech – the candidate did not even mention the word “gun” until 18 minutes in – and focused the bulk of his remarks on shrinking the size of the government and reducing the nation’s spending habits.
“Freedom is the victim of unbounded government appetite, and so is economic growth, job growth and wage growth,” said Romney. “As government takes more and more Windows 7 product key free, there is less and less incentive to take risk, to invest, to innovate, and to hire.”
Romney, who earlier this year revealed that he owns two shotguns, did not delve into his own hunting history during his speech. Earlier Friday, one of his senior advisors declined to specify when he purchased the firearms, where he keeps them or how frequently he uses them. Romney purchased a lifetime membership in the NRA during the last campaign.
In contrast, Sen. Rick Santorum, who suspended his bid for the presidency earlier this week, began his own address to the NRA today with tales of hunting with his family, saying that his wife Karen “owns way more guns” than he does.
“We had the national media trailing along with us as we went on a bird hunt in central Iowa right before the Iowa caucuses, and it was very exciting,” Santorum recalled, laughing.

AMMAN, May 6 Professional Tattoo Machine, 2012 (Reuters) — Fighting between rebels and President Bashar al-Assad’s forces erupted in an oil producing province in eastern Syria, residents and activists said on Sunday, the eve of a parliamentary election the authorities say shows reforms are under way. Rebels armed with rocket-propelled grenades attacked tank positions in the east of the provincial capital Deir al-Zor, in response to an army offensive against towns and villages in the tribal area bordering Iraq that has killed tens of people and stopped others reaching supplies and medical care, they said.
“We do not have a death toll because no one is daring to go into the streets,” said Ghaith Abdelsalam, an opposition activist who lives near Ghassan Abboud roundabout that has become a flashpoint for the fighting in the city.
“The population has been trapped and anger has been building up,” he said, adding the fighting subsided early in the morning after erupting overnight.
The army still has tanks and heavy weapons in cities and towns in violation of ceasefire being monitored by a U.N. team and rebels are continuing their guerrilla attacks on military convoys and army roadblocks that have cut off swathes of the country, according to witnesses and opposition sources.
Fifty out of a planned total of 300 U.N. observers are now in Syria to monitor the ceasefire declared on April 12, but their presence has not halted 14 months of violence.
The authorities say they are fighting what they call foreign backed terrorists in Deir al-Zor and across the country who are bent on sabotaging what state media describe as a comprehensive reform program being led by Assad that is more advanced than in Western democracies.
The authorities are touting Monday’s parliamentary election as a showcase of these reforms.
However, the opposition says it will change little in a rubberstamp assembly that has been chosen by the ruling Assad family, backed by the powerful secret police, for the past four decades.
“NOTHING CHANGED”
The assembly currently does not have a single opposition member and official media said half the seats would be reserved to “representatives of workers and peasants”, whose unions are controlled by Assad’s Baath Party.
“Nothing has changed. Syria’s political system remains utterly corrupt and election results will be again determined in advance,” said opposition activist Bassam Ishaq, who unsuccessfully ran for parliament in 2003 and 2007.
“There are effectively very few seats for independents, and these will go to the highest bidder.”
Interior Minister Mohammad Nidal al-Shaar toured the northern city of Aleppo on Sunday, and declared Syria’s commercial and industrial hub was ready for the vote.
“All resources should be made available to ensure the electoral process proceeds smoothly,” Shaar, flanked by electoral officials, told state media.
Anti-government demonstrations have expanded in Aleppo after Assad’s forces killed seven student protesters at Aleppo University last month. Witnesses say street demonstrations demanding his removal have been expanding across the country after the monitors’ arrival.
Backed by old ally Russia, and with support from Iran’s clerical Shi’ite rulers, Assad, who belongs to Syria’s Alawite minority, an offshoot of Shi’ite Islam, has relied on the Alawite dominated military to try to put down the uprising against his repressive rule, which is being mostly led by members of the country’s Sunni majority.
Unlike the autocratic leaders of Tunisia, Egypt Best Tattoo Inks, Libya and Yemen, who have been toppled by Arab Spring revolts Beginner Tattoo Kits, Assad has retained enough support among the military and among his Alawite sect, which dominates the army and security apparatus, to withstand the popular revolt.
The ruling elite still has open supply lines from Iraq and Lebanon to counter Western sanctions. In Lebanon the Shi’ite guerrilla group Hezbollah has led support for Syria to the disquiet of the Sunni population.
On Sunday, the U.N. monitors were due to visit the town of Zabadani near the Lebanese border, a day after a tour of Douma, another town that at one time was known as a stronghold for the armed opposition but is now back under army control.

A few years ago, my professional journey brought me into the world of higher education Ink Tattoo, where I am now — in addition to other things — a professor. Some days, the unofficial responsibility and de facto requirement to counsel and mentor undergraduate and graduate students both surprises and amuses me, as I still can’t believe I’m so many years beyond their perspectives and experiences myself. This professor gig includes things like wisdom-offering and advice-giving, which I do openly, enthusiastically, and as straightforwardly as I can, despite my shock in discovering that I am a fossil.
And then one day, I realized that so much of my “wisdom” or, more accurately, just “stuff that I say,” comes from the actual wisdom of the great mentor of my life, the incomparable Norman Lear, for whom I worked during my formative early professional years when so much of one’s perspectives on life and work are shaped. After many years of Norman’s “Norman-isms” rattling around in my head, I’ve decided that graduation season is the perfect time to share them with my own students — and the many other graduates who are beginning new chapters in their lives.
So Tattoos Guns Kits, here’s a list of six pretty good advice nuggets to those embarking on their professional journeys — a mix of my best interpretations of my favorite Norman-isms, together with my own blunt advice from experiences accrued along the way.
First, Norman’s:
(1) At the moment of commitment, the entire world conspires to assure your success.
(This was paraphrased by Norman, but originally thought to have originated from the philosopher Goethe.)
With a surface-level read, this may seem obvious and potentially overused — as in, work hard and it will all work out for you. But to me, understanding this bit of philosophy in a deep, internalized way only came with age and experience. When Norman first said this to me, I remember thinking that the key to this mantra was the “world conspiring” part of it — the thought that the world owed me success. But not only is this not the key idea, it misses the entire point. What I came to learn, through the messiness that comes from large and small professional decisions, is that the key is the commitment piece, which has everything to do with your own active engagement in your own life, pursuits and passions. At the moment in which you truly commit to a project, an idea, a version of yourself, you may find the world lining up in ways that allows the success to happen — you meet people who make connections, you have a conversation with someone who tells you the exact thing you needed to hear, you find a partner with whom to collaborate, and on and on. In my own still-evolving professional life, I have encountered the most amazing moments of a world conspiring — but only when I was fully, honestly engaged, with the kind of commitment that is felt deeply when no one else is around to see or validate.
(2) You matter.
If you are making a widget, do it with the best of your intentions and abilities. And while you’re making the widget, stop and appreciate the big picture of how your widget fits into the universe of contributions to society or your community, however you define it. Your work is making a ripple — a dent in the world — during the time you’re here, so don’t forget to appreciate and celebrate the ways in which you matter. And then go back to making the best widget you can make so that the dent in the world will be even deeper.
(3) Deal in straight lines.
Be upfront, tell the truth, be transparent — this is what it means to deal in straight lines. This one is tricky to accomplish in practice sometimes, particularly in the face of slippery maneuvering operators. But, if you do your best on this one, you’ll have the deep internal satisfaction and integrity of knowing that you are a person who deals in straight lines, not crooked ones that are hard to follow at best and manipulative and dishonest at worst.
And here are a few of my pieces of “wisdom,” which are far less eloquent than Norman’s, but have practical, tested utility:
(4) Don’t be a knucklehead (lots of other words apply here).
Workplaces are full of jerks. Don’t be one of them. Collaborate honestly and generously, give credit to your colleagues, thank people privately and publicly when you appreciate them, give constructive (not meanspirited) feedback, follow through when you say you’ll do something, don’t miss deadlines, and communicate clearly and honestly. People go out of their way for other people who are good colleagues — it’s basic human nature — and the work experiences will be so much better for you if you do your best to be a good colleague. And here’s the other thing: If you are the smartest person in the room and find ways to make sure people know that you think they are inferior, believe me, they notice. Emotional intelligence counts.
(5) Apologize sincerely. Practice forgiveness.
I’ve made a lot of mistakes. Sometimes I apologized for them sincerely Where Can i Buy Tattoo Ink, and to be honest, sometimes I’m not sure if I did or not. The apologies that were sincerely felt and conveyed are the experiences with closure. The others — wishy-washy apologies — will eat you up if you are a person with a conscience. So, you’ll make mistakes — and you can’t avoid them — but make sure to build integrity and sincerity into your apologies. And then, when you get the chance to be on the other end of the equation, forgive sincerely. I have been the recipient of sincere forgiveness, and I can’t express my gratitude enough.
(6) Don’t lead with money — find the thing that wakes you up at night with ideas and passion (and the money will follow).
Every job is a slog now and then — it’s a fact. I know there are plenty of folks who disagree with me on this point, but here’s the thing: If you don’t at least start with the idea that you are doing work that you like (or love), thinking about issues that interest you, then the slog may be long and painful and irritating, no matter how much money you make. Do you read stories about people making radical career changes late in life? This comes from that idea. So if you lead first with a firm sense of what you care about, what you’re good at, and what you want to think about all day — and then you become better and better at it — the money will follow, most likely. Just don’t lead with the money piece first.
And with this, I leave you with two final recommendations: wear sunscreen and have great adventures. Congratulations, graduates, and buckle up.

ELLSWORTH, Maine — For the first time in five years, sales of Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy in Maine have slipped below $12 million and 1 million bottles for the calendar year.
The coffee-flavored liquor, produced by M.S. Walker Inc. in Somerville, Mass., has long been the top-selling hard liquor in Maine, according to statistics compiled by the state Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations.
Each year, the bureau releases a list of the top 25 selling units of liquor in the state. The bureau bases its list on the number of cases sold and separately tracks different sizes of the same brand.
Four different sizes of Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy routinely appear among the top 10 spots on the list.
For 2011, different sizes of Allen’s were ranked first, third, fourth and ninth on the list. The largest bottle, 1750 milliliters, was the top-selling unit in Maine last year with 56,159 cases sold, with each case containing six bottles. The smaller the bottle of Allen’s, the fewer cases of it sold in 2011, as is typical every year.
The total sales figures for all four sizes of Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy in 2011 was 988,123 bottles sold with a retail value of $11,991,937. The most recent year during which fewer than 1 million bottles of Allen’s sold in Maine for less than $12 million was in 2006.
The brand of alcohol had its best year ever in Maine in 2009, when 1,065,108 bottles of various sizes sold for a total retail sales value of $12 Replica Marc Jacobs Dresses,953,850.
Tim Poulin, director of operations for the state bureau, said Tuesday that, despite the decrease in the liquor’s sales in Maine, it remains the most popular brand in the state by far. Coffee-flavored liquors generally sell well in Maine, he said, but none compare to Allen’s.
“It’s just very popular in Maine, for whatever reason,” Poulin said. “It’s a love affair in Maine.”
The bureau does not keep statistics on the sales of beers, wines or other alcoholic drinks such as hard lemonade or tea, Poulin said.
Trailing behind Allen’s sales, 142,065 bottles of Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum were sold in Maine last year for a total retail sales value of $3,428,710 Replica White Herve leger, which is the second highest value total among the top 25 units of liquor. Second in terms of volume in 2011 was Orloff Vodka with 276,982 bottles that sold for a retail sales total of $2,727,341.
Bacardi Light rum, which sold 113,822 bottles in Maine last year for a retail sales total of $2,417,571, was ranked fourth for both value and volume. No other brand appears on the state’s Top 25 list more than once.

After 140 years of being run by the Adelaide City Council Tattoo Supplies, the Central Markets on Gouger St, have been handed over to an independent board.
A vote was passed last night at an Adelaide City Council meeting to change by-laws Tattoo Supplies, and hand over full control to the newly formed Adelaide Central Market Authority.
Lead by Judy Potter, currently the Chair of the Fringe Festival, the board has been given the job of improving the market.
“My message will be simple,” Ms Potter said.
“I am committed to ensuring that the Central Market remains the pre-eminent food destination and experience, not only in South Australia, but to be recognised internationally.”
The changeover will also see the Adelaide Council lose control and lose profit from the busy U-Park carpark, above the Central Markets.
The Council will hand over ownership of the Markets to the Adelaide Central Market Authority in July.

When do gay kids start “acting gay”?
A Minnesota school district is facing a Department of Justice investigation and a private lawsuit over its alleged failure to combat antigay bullying. One of the student-plaintiffs is a 14-year-old boy who hasn’t declared his sexual orientation but has been harassed for his clothing choices and his love for singing Lady Gaga songs. When do gay children start exhibiting telltale signs?
In early childhood Discount Chloe Dresses, in some cases. A hefty pile of research shows that boys as young as 3 years old who break from traditional gender roles have a high likelihood of becoming gay adults. Predictive behaviors include playing with Barbie dolls, shying away from roughhousing Cheap DKNY Clothes, and taking an interest in makeup and women’s clothing. (Read the Explainer’s take on why boys prefer to play with sticks while girls go for dolls here.) The relationship isn’t one-to-one, however, and it’s certainly not the case that all boys who love Barbie dolls will later identify as gay. The correlation is much weaker in the other direction: A disproportionate number of boys who don’t conform to gender stereotypes turn out to be gay men, but lots of gay men played with G.I. Joe as boys and quarterbacked the high-school football team. Neither does the relationship appear to be as strong among girls. Tomboys aren’t as likely to become lesbian adults.
Psychiatrist Richard Green conducted the leading study in this field in the 1970s and ’80s. He followed 44 boys who defied traditional gender roles from early childhood to adulthood. Thirty of them became gay or bisexual adults while just one child from a 34-member gender-conforming control group turned out to be gay. The subjects who strayed the most from conventionally boyish behavior were the most likely to be gay. Green’s study has since been repeated by other researchers with similar outcomes. (Studies on females show that only around one-quarter of gender nonconforming girls grow up to be lesbians.)
There is no magical age at which children adopt stereotypically gay behavior and keep it into adulthood. The beginnings of gender nonconformity are hard to pinpoint, and a person’s tendency toward masculine behavior may rise and fall through childhood. Some mothers tell psychologists that they sensed their little boy was gay during infancy. They claim the child behaved differently than male siblings when picked up, showing a stronger interest in nuzzling. (These stories Replica Christian Audigier Clothes, however, may just be hindsight bias.) Gender nonconforming boys also tend to adopt more traditional gender roles in middle and high school, often as an attempt to cover up their sexual identity.
Some researchers think gender nonconforming children use their toys to rehearse for a gay adulthood. Little girls play with Barbies Christian Audigier Clothes sale, high heels, and makeup because they’re practicing the role of wife. Gay 3-year-old boys can’t verbalize their desire to be with a man when they grow up—although many such children exhibit crushlike behavior toward adult men—but they may be trying to learn the behavior that will later attract a male partner. Psychiatrists also point out that these boys don’t typically play with baby dolls or mimic maternal behaviors the way many little girls do. These attempts to explain the basis of gender nonconforming behavior DKNY Clothes sale, however Discount DKNY Dresses, are somewhat speculative.

First of all Discount Emilio Pucci Dresses, if you weren’t aware already, the first-generation Subaru Forester was later sold in India as the Chevrolet Forester (General Motors doesn’t have the CUV in its lineup anymore). There weren’t any real changes to the vehicle in any way, it was really just a Subaru with a Bowtie emblem. Now that that’s out of the way, we have learned that an 80-year-old man in India named Ashok Tolat sued General Motors after his Forester came to a halt and died in one foot of water during the monsoon season in 2005. Angered that his SUV couldn’t handle any weather thrown its way Chanel Dresses sale, Tolat sued GM.
General Motors denied any wrongdoing, claiming that the Forester wasn’t designed as an all-terrain, all-weather vehicle. Tolat countered with the car’s sales brochure, which reportedly likened the Forester’s capabilities with that of a mountain goat. “A total misrepresentation Buy Karen Millen Dresses,” says Tolat. The Washington Post leads with word that some Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton supporters are preparing to coalesce into a single campaign focused on November. The New York Times leads with the sharp rise in sectarian violence in Lebanon, fueled by a recent Hezbollah takeover of Beirut. The Los Angeles Times leads with a profile of the judge who led California’s Supreme Court to legalize same-sex marriages.
Even if voters are still hopelessly torn between Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, campaign staffers are quietly preparing for the day when one of the candidates steps aside. Staffers and fundraisers in both camps are looking for ways to integrate and begin uniting the party behind a single candidate. There are obstacles to this, of course. Sources say strategists who backed Clinton may be sullen in defeat and those who backed Obama may be reluctant to share coveted spots on the winning team. And, yes Wyler Replica Watches, the WP just assumes that Obama will be the nominee, but that’s hardly atypical anymore. Heck, the paper also reports that Obama has already started referring to the Clinton campaign in the past tense.

The violence in Lebanon might have been set off by Hezbollah’s actions last week, but the NYT explains that this round of sectarian conflict is also a product of political instability Replica Vacheron Constantin Watches, which has plagued the country since Syrian forces pulled out in 2005. While Lebanon doesn’t have a long history of conflict between Islamic sects Fake Corum Watches, the recent spate of attacks and counterattacks may have started Lebanon on the path to the kind of prolonged violence raging elsewhere in the region.
California Supreme Court Chief Justice Ronald M. George is a Republican who counts gay couples among his friends; so it’s no surprise that he was conflicted about the landmark same-sex marriage verdict his court handed down last week. George tells the LAT that he considered it a civil rights issue on par with interracial marriage and was pleased that the dissenting opinion wasn’t “homophobic.”
Survivors of last week’s earthquake in China’s Sichuan province are now threatened by flooding, reports the NYT. The paper reports that thousands of survivors are fleeing temporary shelters after the government warned that rivers and lakes could flood due to landslide blockages. If flooding occurs, it would almost certainly put an end to any efforts to rescue people trapped in collapsed buildings. Inside Replica Richard Mille Watches, the WP says the earthquake has found media in China at its boldest in years. The LAT runs a story exploring the power of rumors in Chinese culture and the futile steps the government is pursuing to crack down on idle chatter.
The WP devotes most of its front-page real estate to a package of stories on childhood obesity Replica Casio Watches for Cheap, the first in a five-part series. Today’s entry focuses on the long-term health effects of being obese. The story is bundled online with several interactive features, like an organ-by-organ chart of health problems caused by being overweight and a grocery nutrition calendar.
A strange new economic indicator emerges on the front page of the NYT: the number of calls to crime tip hotlines. These hotlines typically offer cash rewards for tips leading to arrests Fake Tudor Watches for sale, and so some communities have found the phones are ringing off the hook, as hard times press more and more people into turning in friends and neighbors. One source quips that in some places squealing two or three times a week would pay better than a minimum-wage job.
The WP fronts the image crisis Republicans are facing after losing three straight special elections. The LAT is a little late to the party with this story, but the paper manages to eke a little more life out of it by focusing on what Sen. John McCain’s presidential run could do to turn things around for the GOP.
The NYT fronts a piece on Barack Obama’s life story, exploring how Obama’s two memoirs helped turn him into a political phenomenon (or maybe it’s the other way around), all the while raking in millions of dollars for the senator from Illinois.
The revolution will not be Facebooked—at least, not yet—says the WP. The paper covers the online birth and real-world demise of a pro-democracy protest in Egypt that was organized using Facebook.
